What is the smallest bed size you have had success with? Also smallest plant size?

if 150lb in literal 40-50sqft i know where one is.. bed is raised 3ft though.. very interesting to see though

my smallest was 170 sq ft in 2013. grew 270 lbs

correction its raised bed overflowing onto a true weed plastic in total plant is probably MAYBE 100ish sqft? Carolyn phillips alabama lady, was the experiment one and only survivor of the rain down here as raise bed is literally 3ft tall

Thanks Guys, Chris was that plant size or bed size? I have never grown in beds before. I have found roots that run 25+ft from the plant when I gave up on digging. But the roots are spread out more. I was just trying to figure out how small the bed could be without crowding the roots. If I could go 8-10ft wide it would make plant care much easier. Would be less prep, drip lines, cloth, etc than what I have been doing.

Spence I would be interested in seeing how deep the roots go on Mrs Phillip's plant when she is done growing. I think shallow roots will have more nutrients available, more aeration, and bio activity. In the open field they never grow more than a few inches deep but there is a lot of wasted space in between roots. If the plant can be grown in a small bed without pushing them too deep this may be an option.

I second that.
I always enjoyed reading your posts when I was devouring any information I could find before the start of my first growing season.
Your write up in the GWG newsletter on drainage for the stump was very good.
Nice to see Bill Edwards post as well.
