I'm no watermelon genetics expert by any means but knowledgeable melon growers tell me the 239 Leonard 08 is a top watermelon seed. The 239 along with other watermelon seeds will be offered in the Team-Pumpkin seed auction Friday, 9 Jan 2015. Check our seed lot list and don't be late.

They are definitely hard to come by and sell at a premium price. 239 Leonards are no magic bullet and won't perform their magic unless they are properly grown. Just sayin'.... you might not to blow $50 or better on a seed if you are new to this sport. On the other hand if you have plenty of money and want to support a club then it is a great way to go I think.

What if this is THE seed and grows the person who gets it a jack and the bean stalk sized melon.
Now if you had some Bubba presley autographs to throw in we might be talking some big big dollars for those

GVGO Auction on Sunday @ 1 pm will have
Lot# 5. Watermelon #2 - 1 Set 239 Leonard/08 - 197 Leonard x 211 Leonard - 1 seed 291 Kent/ 10 - 239 Leonard x 157 Bright - 4 seeds
This is one of the last 239 Leonard seeds available. It came directly from the Leonards. The seed package also contains 2 seeds from their '08 pumpkins, as that is how they were originally packaged. We wanted to keep the seed pack original, so the winner of that lot will receive the pumpkin seeds as a bonus. Good luck.

Cant help but to wonder who the lucky folks were who walked away with the 239's. Good luck to you this season. Maybe also before you pull the stump at the end of the year look into cloning the plant to keep it going. If not you, maybe someone in your area is interested. To say that seed is special is an understatement.

I am sure over wintering a 239 would be worth the trouble. And a grafted 239 would be a dream come true. But that said, I haven't heard of anyone over wintering a watermelon plant. I wonder if anyone has ever done this.
