I use a radio for coons, it will probably work for the rabbits also. Dollar general batterys and Freds radio 16 dollars, set radio right beside melon. You can also put some seven dust on the vine leading to your melons, this helped me with rats, they don't like the taste. Hope this helps. Jerry

Thanks Jerry, I'll try the seven. The radio didn't work. They came right up to it the 1st day & ate more vines ! :( Going to put an electric fence up.

Hasenpfeffer is a traditional German stew made from marinated rabbit or hare, cut into stewing-meat sized pieces and braised with onions and a marinade made from wine and vinegar.[1]

They like Marks 260 best & of cource the 239 leonard. They don't (knock wood) like the grafted plants. I guess they taste different. They have been going to the 260 even over canteloupe plants next to it. Strange !

I have also had issues with the rabbits this year. Many of them have died lately from acute lead poisoning.

I never see the suckers, just the dead eaten vines ! I bet they have eaten 1/3 of the vines off the 260 plant ! I installed the electric fence, after the 1st night, they ate all the plants including the grafted ones & left me a pile of rabbit pellets in the middle of my best plant ! I think the rabbits name must be Bugs ! I feel like Elmer ! :(

rabbits can hop a 48" fence, if you can tie some chicken wire to your hot wires

Ok here's my suggestion. As a avid deer hunter, I am using scent to lure deer closer, so I think you could do the opposite with the correct scent. Rabbits are pretty far down the food chain, and the main predator is the fox. Get some fox urine at the local hunting store( its a cover scent for hunting). Then get some tampons. Put some fox urine on the tampon and hang down about 8 inches from ground, and do this around your plants. Important note here, tampons are super absortbent!!, so don't put the tampon in the bottle...trust me, just pour some on. apply daily, and I think it be a fairly cheap solution.

I think Todd is spot on with the tampons! Try OB's they come in small sizes and have a long string, easily tied to your electric fence. Just keep the little children away, you really don't want to explain what they are. Your other option is to get a havaheart trap and stick some overripe fruit/veggies in it. Cover the trap with something where ever you place it. Good luck.

the plot thickens.... still eating vines, mostly grafted plants. I think there are mice in there...the pattern has changed and so has the poop ! So i think i got rid of the rabbits and got Speedy Gonzales, the hungrest mouse in all mexico ! "¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba! ¡Yii-hah!"

seven dust on the vine leading to your melon, Keep that up , it will make the mice pick a another vine besides that one. Be nice give them some water and poison food, make sure a cat or dog can't get it. You can trap them. Put a cat on the inside of your electric fence. Just a few ideas maybe something will work.

Jake recommended castor pellets to me this spring as a possible solution to a rodent problem. It has been a good recommendation.

Sweeney's Mole and Gopher Repellent is the castor pellet product sold locally at farm stores. The price runs around $13.00 for 10 pounds.
