Two questions for ya’ll.
Does your stump and main have cracks in it? I think mine always have. I’ve assumed that’s normal but someone asked about it at a patch tour and it occurred to me that it might not be.
How long are your melons on pollination day? I think Todd posted a photo of a 4cm one last year. My best are 26-28mm. I wonder if that is about normal as well.

my vines get cracks, not the stump. mine are all 2.2 to 2.7 cm. never seem to get the long ones. a few years ago i had some at 3.0 cm.. really doesn't matter it seems as long as the are good looking and not deformed.

You better watch those stump cracks closely they will turn to rot fast if your not careful. If the stumps are getting some size to them you can rub a small amout of sulfur powder in the crack and it should heal. But don't use it on young tender stump it can actually crack deeper. See if it heals on its own but keep close watch.
