Every melon vine has ants aplenty---some very small, some about 4mm, but no fireants...yet. Will ants damage watermelon vines? If so, is there ant poison(s) that kill ants but does no harm to melon vines? TIA, Clutch

In bee keeping I always use cinnamon, but in the garden I go right for the ant crystals.

The hardware store has ant poison in little containers you put on the ground. The ants feed on it and take it home to the queen so it wipes out the whole colony. I'd set a few of those out, but I'm not sure if the ants will hurt or help your vines.

In general, I have found the ants to be more destructive than good.

From what I have seen ants promote aphids because they farm them.
