We had a small wind storm Tuesday. The wind twisted my 165 cantrel about a quater of a turn, i think it is ok , the plant seems to have tightend up. Today i almost droped a 291 plant to the ground, made the save but it twisted also,and more than the 165, nothing is broke that i can see. Do you think they will be ok

should be ok. make sure it didn't crack at or right below the soil line.

It is amazing but even if there is a partial crack in the stem it could heal completely and you could be good as new. I moved a stem last year and it cracked, I just imobilized the stem and about two days later I could not even notice where the break was anymore.

I always pin down my vines as much as possible. I used candy cane shaped pieces of wire to pin down the vines in the middle and the ends to keep them from twisting.

On a side note, I finally borrowed a metal detector to de-metal my garden this spring. Found most of my lost candy canes.

I had a double vine on my largest plant and was thinking of breaking it off anyway but i tried moving it just a couple of inches to a better position for light and it broke on one side. So I put it back to the angle it was growing at and the other side broke off. I also have a double vine on another plant and I may just leave that one alone. I had a double vine on a plant 3 years ago and it finally grew out of it and went on to grow a 181 pounds melon. All you newer growers need to remember that a new vine is very tender and can break very easily if you try to do much to change it's direction before it had lost some of that tenderness.
