Anyone willing to help someone new to growing Watermelon? I am on my third year with pumpkins and understand the importance of soil etc. Currently, my melon patch has been amended the same as my AG patch but I have some basic questions in regards to Watermelon. What I learned from last year is they take up more space then you think, I had 8 in 500sq ft last year. I think 2 would have filled up that amount of space. I will only plant 2 this year.

Scott, if you will post your questions on this forum you can gets lot of good advice from different people. Sometimes it is best to hear different points of view and decide which you think is best.

Good stuff! Dont panic if you dont start mid march,Plants have a way of catching up.some of us start mid April to early May.Like Todds says they even out once the heat gets here.

I got a couple emails to offer help and I REALLY appreciate it. I will certainly post questions here but I do a lot of work from my phone and sometimes email is easier for me. I don't always get to BP in good time during the growing season. Looking forward to getting into Watemelon and thanks to those that offered to help out thoughout the year.
