Jed, do you have an incubator ? They are a good investment to provide the steady temperature you need for good germination.

Too much moisture will kill a melon seed fast. Soaking in Kelp water for a few minutes before incubation will help some. A good temp for the incubator is around 98 to 100 degrees. I wrap my seed in a small piece of paper towel that is soaked and then wrung out. I place it inside a small plastic ziploc baggie to keep the paper towel from drying out.I have had excellent results since I began this method.

I have lots of good extra seeds if you still need some.

Jed, lot's of variations have I seen in seed prep...soak, file, etc...The constant I seem to have noticed is the higher temps during the germination process. Peace, Wayne

Muddy Waters

Dont let them dry out,& dont dump water on them.Use a spray bottle to moisten tops of pots,if using pots. When you dump water they get to wet & that can kill the seed. You must have oxygen to ignite root.To dry will kill you to,but better a little dry the too wet.I like a seed box with a top, less evaporation.

Quick survey... questions? #1 soak or no soak?(if soak, how long, and in what). #2 towels or pots? (if towels, details would be way kul, before, during & after towels) #3 temps? if towels (temp), if pots (temp)? Grow em BIG!!! GPC Rocks!!! Peace, Wayne

I will soak in kelp water this year for the first time, for about 15 minutes. I use paper towels that I wet and then squeeze the water out of. Then seed and paper towel go into a small zip-lok baggie and into my incubator.
