Teamwork is what I think will cause our Giant Watermelon Growers club to prosper.Mark,Marvin,Bill & Chris, the big 4 guys at the helm of our ship, in my humble opinion, have been doing an excellent job lately. They have certainly been getting our club moving in a very positive direction. I just want to say a big public thank you and please keep up the good work guys.
I think one of the keys to even further expansion right now is for most of our members to look for an opportunity to talk to others about the club. We can talk to friends and acquaintances and especially to gardener or farmer friends. I mean about all of us started that way and we are here because we found giant watermelon growing to be a lot fun. All we need to do is give some seeds away to a person who has not grown giant watermelons previously. Let most new to giant watermelon growing folks grow one successful Carolina Cross melon and they will be hooked on the hobby. lol So I would humbly request that every person reading this post try to give away CC seeds to as many potential growers as possible. Just do it whenever you see an opportunity. That gift of a few seeds to someone just might be their introduction into our very non discriminating and open to all sport that they will enjoy for many years to come. :o)

I think that competition levels are going to keep rising steadily. As more and more growers figure out all the nuances of growing a successful giant watermelon the average weights will continue to rise. I believe the future of our sport is very bright right now.I think we are going to see a melon over 300 pounds next year and I predict Great white will re-up and offer another big cash prize for the first 325 or perhaps 350 pound watermelon. I do not think anyone has a lock or even a likelihood to grow the world record melon in 2012.I think there are many growers who have very good chances of being the new world record holder. The winner may even be a new grower to the sport.Perhaps it will be a giant pumpkin grower who decides to give giant watermelon growing a try. I believe there will be many different world record holders in the coming years. And ideally it should be that way because it lets us know that any grower with the correct seeds, soil, ideas, work ethic and weather and good luck is capable of being that next new world record holder.I am looking forward to meeting lots of new growers at the weigh-offs in the coming years.
By the way,for those who might be interested,I just had a new PET scan about two weeks ago. It came back negative for cancer. So I am now hoping on be around to participate with you fellow growers for many years to come. I will at least do so if I continue to be graced by God with the gift of good health.

I want to say thank all the well-wishers for the nice encouraging words. It was mighty nice of you guys and gals.I really posted my "health report" as an aside and basically I was attempting to make a positive comment about the future of our young hobby.I really do appreciate all the kind words though.
