Largest melon has noticeable bulge on one side. Can anyone advise approximate degrees of rotation per day? And, should bulge be moved up or down(the stem is loose enough to allow movement either way)? Regards, Clutch

Why do you need to ? Is it going to fall over ?
Degrees per day = not very much, 2 maybe. If you mean like rolling it.

Moving the melon around will not help its shape any.

'Tole y'all at sign-on I'd ask silly questions. AFA the rotation question is concerned---read somewhere that larger melons should be gradually rotated to prevent "saggin'" and, of course, I believe everthing I read. Txs for replies. Regards, Clutch

There's an old wives tale in my region about "rolling" watermelons. A new grower that I was semi coaching last year lost a big one by rolling it. He inquired and I advised against it but he didn't listen. Nearly every old timer that visits my patch will ask if I "roll" them. I always ask "why should I roll it" and the reply most often, "that's what my Daddy or Grand Father did". I've even asked them to speculate as to why rolling would help but I never get an answer. It's funny, there they stand in my patch, looking at the biggest watermelon they've ever seen in their life and they wanna give me advice on how to grow them....LOL ;} Don't get me wrong, I do get sound advice from the old timers and I really enjoy their visits but the best advice comes from this board.

I have heard the same advise. I don't care if the sag or are flat or whatever. Only care that they get big ! If you want a small round melon, rotate away. LOL
