I was looking at different types of watermelon that I may try to cross with a Carolina cross watermelon next year. Some are diploid some are triploid. What is the diffirence? Can you cross a diploid watermelon with a triploid watermelon? If you do will the new variety be stable? Or will it only exist for one generation?

A triploid watermelon is a seed with 3 sets of chromosomes and they are mostly infertile.A diploid has the normal number
of chromosomes I think and so those would be the ones to choose from.
