Can a melon get a flat vine like pumpkins do ? One of my 193 Whites has a BIG flatvine. It is 3 times the size of any other vine, and flat. Has anyone ever set a melon on one of these ?

It's not too unusual. Double vines do happen with Carolina Cross melons. The one I had 2 years ago double vined and then grew out of it. They must not produce good melons because I know pumpkin growers frown on them. It might be an interesting experiment for you to see how you do with one.

Well I looked at it this morning and found two things that happened. It did grow out of it and split into two vines, and a mouse or rabbit took a nip into it.It was not too deep , so I think it will be fine. No females on that vine yet, but lots of males and leaves.

Mine grew back into a normal single vine. They can go either way.
