Subject: How many mains

I'm growing the 291 this year. Just wanted to know how many mains u all let to grow. I think there is just one strongest main that comes off the plant. Thanks,,,,,,,,greg

I think that technically there is only one main and everything else would be secondary or tertiary and so on. However you may designate any vine you want as a main and grow it as one.It may not truly be a main but for all intent and purpose it is. I am growing the flag pattern this year and that means 2 mains. They will grow in opposite directions of each other. One will usually be the actual main and the other will be a secondary off the stump grown as a main.

There is 1 main vine. There will be 2-5 finger vines, they would be like a back main on a pumpkin. they are really side vines that come off the leaf segments that are the stump. Some let them all grow, others prune & keep only some.
