Minnesota Melon Man

I put 6 plants in the ground yesterday. Nice looking plants with good looking roots.

It's been a slow spring for me with the weather just not cooperating, and then a sudden business trip.

I put in the following genetics

193 White
149.5 White
149.5 White
35 Kent
260 Kent
291 Kent

The rest of the plants I gave to the gal that kicked my butt last year with my plants. You would think that I would learn.

Now what fun would growing be if you didn't have some competition !

Looks like a nice lineup James. I hope the weather settles down and you northern growers have a great year.

The garden has been a mud hole, and that's saying something considering my garden is pretty much sandbox sand. Lots of rain and wind. But I won't complain too much considering how others have suffered.

This is honestly the latest I have ever gotten in a garden. Oh well, it will probably end up well anyway.

MHMM, I think it may be a bit of a blessing for me. I always want to push the season and I have been getting melons ahead of the time I need them for competition. This year I will be playing catchup to my usual and so my melons may max their weight in a more timely manner. That's what I am hoping for anyway.

I have begun using liquid kelp and the stuff amazes me. I started it 6 days ago and my plants have made some tremendous improvements. They should be looking great soon if the good Lord's willin' & the creek don't rise.

We learned that you want to make sure any fertilizer you use doesn't smell like fish. Otherwise the dogs like to roll on the plant.

Good point James. I have already had problems with a dog digging in my patch once this year.
