Jake, I have been successfully using Neem oil on my smallest seedlings. I use it at full recommended strength and it seems to work well so far with no adverse effect on my plants.I have also been using a little H2O2 in my spray as it is said to kill insect eggs. And the Neem oil is organic. I just ordered a full gallon of it from an eBay seller.I don't know yet if it kills squash bugs though.I guess I need to read the label more extensively.

How big are these bugs? Would a little screen that had a mesh that didn't block out too much sun work? At least until they get bigger? When I am not being lazy I cover many types of plants with the cheapest, very light bird netting stretched over little wire hoops. I just tuck the bird netting into the dirt a little... or clothespin it to the hoops. It even makes the birds, rabbits, mice and rats go around it and look for something else to eat. Maybe you can find something with 1/4" holes? I bet that would even stop hail.
