last year was my first year at growing giant watermelons. I am just wondering if any of you experienced growers can tell me a bit about what you are using for ferts??? I am also wondering what the optimal soil conditions are??

The new Minnesota state record was set by the Akerman's out of Austin, and they said they dumped 13 honey wagons of manure on the patch. About 18" deep and then tilled it in.
Sometimes it helps to just ladle it on I suppose.

I hope the total of 12 dump trucks loads helps the new patch. Numbers looked high. Lonnie just treat em like a pumpkin. Fertilizing helps to keep the gains stable towards the end of the year. I ussually use low nitro foliar food.

Be carefull with seedlings if soil to hot they wither,If soil is great,I would be carefull with fertz & water,You can blow up a melon if you push it to hard,
