Took to the Tennessee Valley fair in knoxville. Sorry Dave, they needed a "real" melon ! LOL ;)
This one tapered alot on the blossom end. I think thats why it didn't go over the OTT as much.

Chris, it was really nice to see you at the Tennessee Valley fair this evening. Brother Dave's melon looked pretty impressive until yours arrived.Congratulations on another highly likely first place win.And Brother Dave, congratulations on second place. Too bad though, it's the only growing contest I know of where there is absolutely no recognition for second place. Looks like they would at least award a ribbon or something.

What did Dave's weigh? There is always tough competition in Tennesse.

Dave's came in at 151 pounds; it is a very nice looking melon.

I think Brother Dave will be a very serious competitor next year if he is able to get the weeds under control. I am hoping to return to serious competition myself.

Hope your getting better and hope to see you back next year. Looked like Dave was taking care of alot of melons this year along with a lot of other stuff, he did a great job.

Jake, I wish you could see Brother Dave's peach orchard. It is simply beautiful. And talk about something that takes a lot of care, I think there must be over 1000 trees. And that's just a part of his farm. It's hard to see how he has time for watermelons at all.But he obviously has good land and a lot of watermelon knowledge and will in the running for awards if he is able to do a few things differently next year. On a personal note I have survived round one of my chemo therapy. It made me extremely ill for a few days. But now I have bounced back & am ready for round 2 beginning September 14 & lasting for 5 days.
