My wife and I were sitting in church on Sunday listening to the pastor give his sermon on Jonah. He reached the part where Jonah is sitting down and God causes a vine to quickly grow to give Jonah shade. The next morning he causes a worm to eat the vine which withered it, making Jonah curse his own existence. At that point my wife leans over to me and said "Had he used some Remay blanket to protect the stump he could have avoided this problem".
I suppose when you are a grower, you are focused on solutions.

About a month ago our pastor did a sermon on false idols, and how not to put things above God, he even mentioned growing watermelons, because we are good friends and he knows the attention I put into growing them. Well low and behold my largest at that time never grew another inch, and the squash bug battle began. It's kinda funny and since I have told him not to mention watermelons any more during his sermons!

Remind me not to share my personal hobbies with my pastor so that he doesn't ask God to smite me.

Read 1 Corinthians 3:7, it applies to watermelons too.

Last year I was reminded that I wasn't in control, when a massive hailstorm took out everything. It's very humbling when a storm of that magnitude comes through. It put things into perspective for me What's true for how many melon's to leave (on a plant) is also true for us. "In the end there can only be One." Where have I read that before?
