I know I'm getting ahead of myself personally, but something I've always been curious about. Aside from contests, is there any other way to get a watermelon sort of formally weighed?
Not necessarily in trying for a world record, but just to say, "Okay, I know how much it weighed, and I can be confident I got an accurate weight."
As far as informal weighing goes, I picked up a bathroom scale and used it last year. The scale seems pretty accurate, but I don't think weighing a +100 lb melon on a digital bathroom scale would be very practical.

One place that you might try would be the local recycle center - their scales are usually pretty accurate !
