At what point do you begin shading the melons and do you shade the stump as well? Thanks

I'll shade mine as soon as I can, either with the plant leaves or with burlap. It's so hot here I think shading is a key to get a good start. As far as the stump, some people will put a small table over the stump to keep it drier. If we ever got any rain here, I'll do the same.
