Hey Kirk, I'll give it a try. Let's say your melon is laying stem to the North and blossom to the south.
CC-- measure from blossom end around the side to the stem and all the way back to the blossom. This would be from South to North back to South at the mid section of the melon.
SS(side to side)--at the fattest part of the melon meausure from the ground over the top back down to the ground. This would be East to West.
EE(end to end) Start with the tape on the ground at the stem end(North) and measure over the top to the blossom to the ground(South).
Now add up all three numbers and that your score. Here's a link to the OTT chart. http://www.gvgo.ca/downloads/watermelon_ott.xls
I hope this makes sense, maybe someone else can explain it better. Let us know how there growing. Later

That sounds good, just remember thats straight down to the ground not around the melon curve when doing the EE & SS

It's not a part of the formula directly, but I would also track girth, which is the side to side around the belly measurement. I always have my fruit up on boards, so that measurement is much easier.

Kirk, I leave a tailors tape under my best melons to easily get girth whenever I want to. It get hard to get a tape under a melon when it gets large.

TD's idea is what I also do, you can watch the growth slow and usually stop all together. That's how I tell the melon has stopped growing...
