I did some research, and I came up with downy mildew from the description and picture. Is the plant a gonner, or will fungicide treatment help it ? Two of my plants have it. I cut most of the leaves off that had it (only 6 or so) and sprayed fungicide.

Quite sure its chemical burn. Guessing, too strong of a dose or sprayed with the sun too high.

Brotherdave, The leaves that have this on it are the oldest leaves on the plant. ALL on the primary vine in the middle only, but spreading outward. I am not disagreeing with your thoughts , I just wanted to add that.
The plants are still growing well, so I am hopeing it is a chem burn, like you stated. Thank you, Lee

I've had a very similar look when I used sevin on young plants. It didn't slow the plants just hurt the leaves that I applied it on. Leaves died in about two weeks but plants kept growing fine. Doesn't mean that this isn't downy, but if you have doubts send in a tissue sample and possibly salvage the season.
