In only my second year growing the CC's I found out how to grow a record melon.
#1 start with the Perfect seed, then all you have to do is get it to germinate, then keep it from getting leggy, burning it from the sun, and not letting it get to cold, hot or wet, it has to be perect.
#2 Then transplant at the perfect time, in a completly weed free garden, with just the right amount of organic matter, not to much, because to much of anything is not good. After transplanted you must keep the wind from twisting your vine, the hail from smashing it, then rain from flooding it, the heat from cooking it, and not to mention all the bugs from munching on it.
#3 After your Perfect plant has vined out, your in the short rows. Now all it needs is the Perfect amount of the RIGHT fertilizer at the correct times, but not to much or you will stress it out, and not to little or you will not acheive the max. Then all you need is to pollinate the Perfect female flower at the Perfect location on the vine, with the Perfect male flowers, at the Perfect time of day and hope it doesn't abort.
# 4 through #78.......... My point is to all the growers that have grown these big melons, my hat is off to you, it is not easy and not for the lazy. The stars must align, and you must work your butt off. Who would have ever thought that growing a watermelon could be so much fun and on the other hand be so much hard work.
Thanks to everybody here who has helped me get started and one day, I hope to help as many people.

LOL, Ice, steps 1- 3 are the easy ones ! Growing the melon is the hard part. After you get the melon set, thats when all the 2nd guessing happens.
Is this one the keeper??
Does this one look better??
Whats that bump mean??
Do i have room??
Is it too hot under the cover??
The new set is growing faster, but my 1st melon is 50 lbs, do i cut it off??

Want me to keep on ??? LOL

Yours looks good in the pictures.
Is your soil that sandy naturely??

I think the best way is to just give the seeds to Bill Edwards or Marv Mitchell. lol. I sure can't do it.
