here we go, I have two 159.50 Joynson -09 growing on buckets now. Started them too early(didnt remember how fast these grows) and they are now 2 and 3 fot long. Males flowering and both have tiny females showing.Generally both plants are in good shape.

Question is, Im am able to plant them on allotment last week of May or first of June weather permitted. By then these are kind of long plants,lol.

So is it wise to cut mains and keep them more compact,this way I should have quite lot stronger and shorter vines when planting on allotment? If i cut wheres right point, after 4th leave 8th leave or?

These wont grow any monsters in Finland but hey, Country Rec. for watermelon is 9 lbs so that would not be too difficult to get;) 30-40 lbs would be awesome year here.

Of course I could let longer plant to get pollinated but im quite sceptic does that small plant power to carry fruit.

So, what would Dr. Phil do?;)

I believe that Dr. Phil would invent some new malady that no one currently has, write a book about it, and go back on the talk show circuit.

Without seeing what this plant looks like, I would still put it in the ground, and not trim the main. If you are concerned, then go for a melon on a secondary vine. You will be surprised at how small a vine will still produce a nice melon, especially one in the 30 to 40 pound range. Geeze...I culled melons that big, so I would raise the bar a little higher.

MMM, thanks for input. I will take pics in few days and put them on my diary to Judges to see;) I might be able to go on allotment next week but there is frost possiblity to early June so I would like to wait soil to warm etc.

40+ would be awesome but hey....FINLAND=SantaClaus=Cold...

Problem solved, one with main growing and another without..dropped parsnip pot on main, always blame on parsnips,lol.

So far these guys looks good, I hope we get new heatwave after short cooler period to get them on allotment.
