We previously had a discussion on lanscaping cloth. I posted some pics from last year in my diary for this year. The roots grew thru it and the size of the roots were suprising. I am a firm believer that the node roots are important after seeing this. MMM your right on once again.

Those node roots were impressive in the picture but I'm still going to have to go with my plastic this season.

I understand that if weeds are a serious problem in the patch, then you need to take serious measures. I have 20+ years of making sure that weeds do not re-seed into the soil, so I can keep my patch pretty much weed free without the use of plastics or fabrics.
In the early years, I used to tell people "It's not a weed unless it's taller than what I am interested in".
My other favorite is somewhat biblical with "If thy weeds offend the, then pluck them out"

I use fabrics to cover my "weeding work ethic"

I'm going to use some on a patch or 2. Gots lots of weeds coming up. I had a choice of either no mauna(SP) or some with weeds, i choose the one with...may have been a mistake.

I've had plastic down from the begining. After seeing those roots I've decided to cut out space just under the plant as it starts to run and pin the runners in place with skewers. Great pic Holloway!

Yeah I ussually have alot of weeds because of my manure source which is one reason I cover them. I hauled another 35 yards of composted manure this year so the weeds would be terrible. Sounds like a good idea brother dave I will probably do that this year just to help them out.

Typically I will not use horse manure since the horse digestive system doesn't process weed seeds. It's a good way to bring in crab grass. If you can get rotted cow manure, that's much better.
Adding manure is definitely a double edged sword.

I used horse this year since i had no cow available. Plus the horse manure was loaded & trucked to my house instead of me having to go get it with a shovel & my truck ! We had some rain last weekend, now my ground is turning green with all the seedlings....hard to believe there are so many !! i going to be busy this year ! LOL

Keep on top of the pigweed Smoky. We're getting alot of roundup resistance in it and it will leave you about a million resistant seeds per plant.
