This is my second year growing the cc's. From all that I have learned over the last year from this site, researching the internet, better seed line and talking to many growers I feel that I am in much better shape than last year.
Now with that said, what year did you notice your biggest gains in? I know TD had a huge gain from year 1 to year 2, just wondering about others.

First year was just a "hey! let's throw that in the garden, but managed around 80 pounds. Second year 118, Third 149, Fourth 187, Fifth 225. So that is just a gradual add 30 pounds every year sort of thing. Of course advice wasn't flowing as freely back then, so it was a slow crawl.
The couple years were a challenge due to weather conditions in southern Minnesota. Storms, hail, cold, no sun, etc. All the things that make you wish you had used to the space to grow something else that year.

Only Chris would start out with a 213. 213 to 259 maybe a 305 this year? My first year ironically started with a bet because my neighbor made fun of my tiny crimson sweets. I won with a 75 pounder. He had to buy Me and my wife supper one night. The next year was a 160, and last year was a 194 and a 191. But like James said this forum is what really put the pounds on. MMM's advice really helped me get started. Along with some generous growers helping with seeds.

I'm actually still trying to beat my first year, 2000. Only one melon plant that year , grew a 232. Didn't grow again until 2003 when my biggest was 182. Last year that I grew was 2004 and my biggest was 196. Maybe I'll beat it this year...
