I have started a few cc melons about 1 month ago. What length should the vine be at that time?
I had them out side during the past 2 weeks during the day with the very warm temps, and I think some of the leaves may have been burned/scorched. I have heard of some of the southern growers talk about that but don't know what color the leaves would be from that. Mine were a light brown color and even felt brittle. Am I on the right track or is their something else happening ? Lee

Sunshine should not burn a healthy plant. If you were using fluorescent lighting which is often not very bright and suddenly gave them a full day of direct sunlight then perhaps you may have burned your leaves. A HID light will burn leaves severely if you get the light too close to them. That said, they put out a LOT of light and I have never had a problem with my plants adapting to full sunlight.

TD, now that you mention the fluorescent lighting, they could have possibly been burned by them. I try to keep them very close to the lights and a few times when I checked on them , a few leaves were touching the bulbs. The bulbs normally do not get hot to the touch, but in order to keep more heat in the box I put a blanket over the light and box on the colder nights. I have noticed that the bulbs and light fixture get very hot when it is covered. With the warmer weather, my basement is around 60-65 degrees, so I am no longer covering the box and light.
They do seem to be healthy other than a few of the light brown leaves. The yellow areas that I mentioned a few weeks ago seemed to have stopped after I gave them some fertilizer, so it must have been a deficiancy. Lee
