I notice alot of melons I see listed from weigh offs and on the GPC site have nothing listed on parentage. I don't know the resoning but we all need to make sure entry forms are filled out with parentage AND measurements. Like everyone does with the AG's. I started a database of know parentage on the bigwatermelons yahoo group years ago, LINK: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bigwatermelons/ but only a few have added to it over the years. I would like to invite you all to join the yahoo group and add your melons to the database. I know others also keep these records but the one on the yahoo site can be added to by members and kept up to date for all to see. The group has been slow for awhile but we all can change that by becoming members and contributing to the site. If anyone (MMM??) has such info. for the database of known parentage, if you can send it to me I will enter that into the database for you. I think we really need a database such as the AGGC, only for melons instead. I just don't think the intrest is there to justify maintaining and paying for a website like the AGGC, hench the FREE yahoo group. We have GOT to share this information to help us all, look what it's done for pumpkins over the years. Melon growers need to keep close records on melons, like you do with pumpkins and make that publicly available. What are others ideas on this? Suggestions?

We had a watermelon lot, and I just typed what was on the envelope!

Yes we need genetics in all our competition lines, no matter what kind of seed it is...

Good deal, look forward to it. I plan on updating the database with parentage I'm positive of in a few days. OkieGal, I wasn't particularly talking about seed packs but that brings up a good point, as parentage on the pack is also necessary for good records.
