Just pasting some tibits on...the Farmer's market in Raleigh just has a watermelon weigh off this past Saturday and the heaviest melon weighed 203. I think there were 11 entries. Harry

I put a picture of the melons at the farmers market weigh off last week on the link below. There are some other pictures that I had out there from 2005. Various shapes and sizes. Enjoy. http://www.carolinagourdsandseeds.com/giant_watermelon.htm

I got some giant pear gourd seeds after a long search. I can't find any info on them and very few people that grow them. What would be a good size for one. How do they compare to Giant Kettle gourds? I haven't weighed it yet but I have one about 60 inches in girth still growing. Just wandering how I was doing. Any info on them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks jake

I have not heard of a giant pear. Nobody at show sell any gourds by that name. They do have giant martins, large kettles, etc. Can this be a large kettle? Does it tapers up to a point?

It has a rounded blunt top. They are nearly white colored while growing. I does look like a martin gourd in shape. There is a video on U-tube about Leonardo Urena's world record long gourd. There are some giant pears in that video. Someone told me he has grown some 150 pounds but I don't know. I have no idea how to contact him. I got my seeds from someone that got seeds from him. Seeing that video started my search. I noticed rocky ford farm had it listed on their page. I tried to email them but didn't go thru. It maybe that this variety has a more common name. Maybe a giant martin, but I'm not sure what they look like. But you can get a good view on U-tube.

I looked at some pics of giant martin gourds the color looks different from giant pears and the neck looks a little different. I doesn't taper like the Kettle gourd either. When mine is done I will post a pic. Thanks
