The fair here starts September 5.Knoxville is about 100 miles northeast of Chattanooga.First prize for the heaviest melon is $100.00.If you are interested, do a Google search for the Tennessee Valley Fair.Entries are being accepted on September 4 up until 9:00 PM.

Holloway - you would probably win and the $100 might pay your gas money.

There is nothing exciting about my melon Holloway. It's just sitting there waiting to be picked. It is still about 33" long and a bit over 40" in girth. It may top 100 pounds if I am lucky.I am already thinking about next year.I will take this one to the fair though - just to see.

I believe prize money is the same amount for both watermelons and pumpkins at both fairs.$100 in Knoxville for the single heaviest and then the much larger $600,$400 & $250 prizes for the largest 3 melons or pumpkins in Nashville. What I read was the weigh off for Nashville is September 3rd.

You guys got me all excited, so I ran out and checked the premium book at the Minnesota State fair thinking that for certain I could feather that nest a little.
But the largest watermelon was worth $10 and a ribbon. Oh well. That would not even cover the gas to drive up there early to drop it off, well enough to drive back up there afterwards to pick it up.
