1. Do Watermelon vines start growing roots under leaves or any part of the vine like Pumpkins do?
2. Do you bury vines - If so do they start rooting?

I have the same questions about Cantaloupe if anyone has answers.

I have never buried the vines on watermelons or cantaloupe.I did notice last year that i did have some rooting of the vines, but nothing really to warrant buring them.

I pin my vines down to keep them from blowing about, and that encourages them to secondary root. They generally root at least 4 to 5 junctions down the vine. This is the reason I don't use black plastic, because I want that secondary rooting. When you pick the melon in the fall, grab each of the vines coming of the root and pull. Count the number of snapping noises as the roots break along the vine.

As for burying, I really don't. I worry about rotting vines, but I have nothing to prove that it causes the rot.
