The first virtual watermelon weigh-off!!!
At least I think its the first. The idea behind this contest is to help spread the knowledge on how to successfully grow giant watermelons. To make giant watermelon growing more competitive and possibly get a few more people involved. And, of course, to have fun.
The contest is open to anyone who wants to enter. To enter all you have to do is put something into the kitty, like some seeds, or something of value towards growing giant pumpkins, squash or melons. I will collect the kitty, then it will be sent to the winner(s). I will make a list here on BP of what everyone who enters puts into the kitty. That way everyone knows whats in the kitty. The prizes will probably be divided into two categories, one for seasoned melon growers and one for novice melon growers.
Here are the rules:
1. You must keep a diary here on BP showing the progess of your melons through the 2008 season. And supply info on what you're doing with your plants.
2. The fruit must be weighed at an official weigh-off. Fruits weighed at home on your bathroom scale won't count.
3. The heaviest solid fruit in each category wins. No DMG's or UOW's.
To enter email me and I'll send you my mailing address. Then you send me your antee and you'll be entered in the contest.

I'm not sure. I had a thread below that was asking if anyone was interested. It looked like people were interested so I decided to make it official. This is the official contest starting thread. If you'd like in the contest email me, send in your antee and you're in.

Whatever you want to send, a couple seeds, seed envelopes, a pound of soluble kelp, five bucks, whatever you want to put in. No crazy off the wall stuff please. Just something that would be of use to another grower. Seeds would be the easiest of course, but anything will do.
