Are you using the pumpkin charts to estimate weight?

"Petey" - Sorry, didn't see your post. I would take into account position on the vine, and how the feeder vine looks like for the melon, but in general, if both fruit were set before July 1st, then I would go with the better shape. Length is really key.

It could always be better of course, and 10 pounds is a little slow for growing. I like a good 18 to 20 pound growth week, and if we are wishing, I would also like a pony.
I can't even measure my melons. We are deluged in rain. I received over 12 inches just on Saturday, and it has rained daily for the last two weeks, and is forecast to rain for a few more days. I have a five gallon bucket sitting in my garden that is just about full of water from the weekend. There's at least 16 inches in it.
You always have to worry with the Red Cross announces how many storm shelters they are setting up in your area.

Thanks Melon Man, I guess I should be glad for what Im getting. What does so much rain do to a melon, do they explode like pumpkins...Its hasnt rained here in weeks, well we got a little drizzel yesterday and my rain barrels have been empty for a week. I have been watering at least 2 times a week with mild feeding when I remember. Well, its still fun. Just measured 34+49+71=154...110 lbs....yahoooooo
Oh yea, I want a pony too....

This rain has buried my vines, smashed the leaves into the ground and massively eroded the garden.
It also prevents me from fertilizing, which has sent me back.
Oh well.

I finially found my seed packet for the watermelon Im growing, its "offspring of 157# Carolina Cross" ordered from Hope Ark...Well, thats just about what it weighs now..It seems to still be growing..but not really sure..Its hard to measure a melon, not like a pumpkin. I have three plants and they are all doing about the same...The neighbor boy is going to enter one into the vegetable contest here, I'll be out of town. Im sure he will win. I do plan on attending the KY weigh off Sept29th, no pumpkins but will take my melon for fun. So how is everyone else doing...Croley

Actually I find that it easy to measure watermelons. It's the same as pumpkins, and you don't need duct tape to hold the tape in place.
It's the same OTT measurements, and a look up in the table. It's been pretty accurate for me so far.
