This year I'm growing crimson sweet watermelon next to my ag patch. The ag's are all dead now, from phytophthora according to the lab report. The watermelon plants are now dying too, apparently from phytophthora, although I haven't confirmed this by sending a sample off to the lab. Some of the fruit appear to be mature. Are they safe to eat? Mark

Depends, the phyto wont hurt you if ingested, but the chemicals you may have blasted the pumpkins and watermellon plants with will!

Thanks Gad's. The pumpkins got blasted but not the watermelons. Well, at least not the crimson sweet. I'm also growing two carolina cross watermelon plants that have been treated just like the ag's. The 210.5 D'Amico 2005 plant is gone but the 168 Schniker is still looking good.

Thats a pretty big stretch of a statement Gads ... ..certainly not all chemicals are unsafe and you have no idea what he used. To comment like that is rediculous.

HMMM the watermelon in the store are blasted with Insecticides, Fungicides, then often Sprayed after harvest. Along with the soil being given a good herbicide. I would eat mine out of the patch anyday.

Agreed...I'd eat my AG's long before commercially produced Strawberries if pesticide consumption was a concern! LOL
