I once grew a Wee Be Little pumpkin, in a half gallon glass milk bottle. That was a hoot. Took it, to the fair and got a dandy ten cent certificate, for a non-defined unusual entry. There are minatures, by other names today.
It takes a lot of work but if you are into foolishness there is nothing more foolish. The kids were 7-8 years old. That was a day or two ago. The youngest is now 50.

If the exchange rate conversion table is correct, the folks in Japan are spending 87 US dollars per melon. A man could make some serious bucks growing these things.---LOL
