I would like to take a couple of pumpkins to some weigh-offs in California this year, but I've heard border patrol is quite strict about fruits and vegetables. Would they confiscate a giant pumpkin? Do I need a permit? Asking now since it would really suck to drive for a week then have your pumpkins confiscated by border patrol.

I took one across at I80 years ago.They waved me through.The PNW gang take a slew of them every year-never heard of one stopped.

We shipped Don Black's 884 WR back in 1993 from here in Windsor, NS to Los Angeles. The only problem authorities had was trying to open up the wooden crate upon arrival!

I havent heard of problems but there is a first time for everything. There are so many laws and which ones they enforce could shift at any moment. One time I got flagged for inspection after I arrived at my destination address, but they still let me through.

To answer your question, YES it is entirely legal to bring a pumpkin through the STATES. I am not sure about those in BC who want to drive down here.
