What if a "Seed Pack of the Year Club" was formed. For a small fee,say $10 bucks a year a person could join up and receive a pack of 4 or so seeds to be mailed out March 1st. Members would be required to join up for $10 and provide a self addressed envelope with postage. I don't know what the demand would be, but the money could go to the clubs. You could post the opportunity on the face book sites and also make folks aware of it at weigh offs.

Great Idea, however,

This is something clubs should offer to get new members.

I know the RMGVG puts out a seed pak every year for the cost of a club membership, other clubs do too. The club membership is important as they can provide growers information for better success, and seeds to plant to get up to speed. Just cuz one has a preferred seed doesn't mean its going to grow you a coat, comes with luck and years of experience which a club can help with.

That would be great if clubs did that. The thing is that it has to be promoted. One venue would be to promote it at every weigh off and via posts to Facebook sites. Based on what I've seen on some of the Facebook sites when interested folks ask where to get seeds most of the time the answer is "I'll sell you some of mine". Though there are plenty of people giving them away for free too.

Pre pandemic, the Annapolis Valley Club had been doing this for some time. It wasn’t necessarily a way to increase membership, it was just another way for more members to compete. The seed of the year could be any category of giant vegetables, not just AGs.
