Frozen Pumpkin

Pembina, ND, USA

I live about three miles south of Emerson, MB in North Dakota and I'm trying to make a go of it with a pumpkin, but the Summer is short. Do you know of anyone in the area on either side of the border that's having any luck. From what I've seen, most of the successful growers this far north are on the coasts. I'm also looking for some good seed. Any help?

Frozen, I have seed from my 800lber this year (1446 Eaton X Self). It is not proven seed, but if you want some send me an e-mail (by clicking on the mail icon beside my name).

Frozen, if you do a search on this site for "Manitoba" that'll get you the names of a couple of growers North of you.

I'm in a true zone 3 do to my geographic location in relation to Lake Superior,,average first and last frost dates are actually a little shorter than yours. I met with fairly good success this year with making the effort to protect plants early and late used various methods documented in my diary.
People deal with all the weather extremes growing these freaks, it just depends on how much work you put into it to get the results that meet the goals you set.

MB Pumpkins

Steinbach, Manitoba

Hi Frozen,

This is Garth from Steinbach, MB. I'm pretty close to you ~40 min drive. This year was my first season growing pumpkins. The two previous were a bust due to the rain. I was able to coax out a 530lb one out without a lot of trouble and very late flowering (pollinated July 21 and finished first week of Sept.). I did a lot of things wrong, so its gotta be the seed and the great weather that pulled me through. I'm looking forward to trying it again this year. With the right seed, good advice from experienced growers and some luck/good weather I can do much better this year. So should you. If I can help you in any way, let me know. I have seeds for the asking. I'll post an email address if you need it.
Garth
