Im not sure if this is the right place to post a hi, but just wanted to say hello and how nice it is to find this forum.
Im not sure whats happened to me in the last two months!! I decided I wanted to try and grow some giant atlantic dill pumpkins at the beginning of the year ( we have a teeny garden so perhaps i like a challenge or have some slight competitive nature issues!?!) i havent done any of the special gardening pumpkins things apart from caring for the patch in the same way as the rest of the garden...i have two big pumpkins ( not too the size everyone here has but im excited by them) so have decided to take one (snozzcumber) to the RHS harvest show in London (really just to experience a weigh off. Since I made that decision ive become a bit obsessed! ive ordered books, researched all sorts of growing processes...joined this forum..now regularly bring pumpkin titbits of knowledge in to daily conversation and frankly its all makes me very happy. (family and friends sort of look interest but ultimately are slightly glazed over after the 4th fun fact!).

Next year I want to try to grow one that is a biggie..I would love to attend the York pumpkin festival but think its a bit far this year so if I pray to the Pumpkin gods enough then next year I might be lucky enough to go.

Im not sure what ive let myself in for..i have so much to learn and am excited to discover it. I dont even know why this has bitten me like it has..the crazy thing is I dont even know how I would get a huuge pumpkin through the kitchen door!..but what the hell worry about demolishing the house next year ;).

I live in Essex in the U.K just by the coast...looking forward to collecting some seaweed to prep the beds and compost..almost want this year to be over so I can get working on next years pumpkin.

So after that waffle...hello!!!

Laura

Hi Laura,

Another UK grower...great and congratulations with your pumpkin!

I'll be heading to the RHS event on Monday to deliver two pumpkins (one is mine, one is a schools) between 6-8pm so it will be great to see you.

I'll bring some seed down with me in case you need it for next year.

Have you a plan in mind for moving it?

Pete

Hi Dandytown!
My apologies for not seeing your message sooner..thank you and congrats to you too :)! Hope it's going well this year? I've managed to get a little allotment space but it needs lots of work as was left in a bad way so not for growing on this year am prepping it. I also purchased some giant world record winner seeds from Thompson & Morgan but one was bad and the other has grown a tiny leaf and is hanging on by it's thread.. I keep trying to boost its self esteem with positive affirmations.. It is trying.
The seeds from the RHS show pumpkins are doing well though.. Won't be huge again but will be bigger than an apple so that's better than bigger than cherry!
I've discovered I'm very good at growing a leaf.. So any advice needed on leaf growth in there ;)

How's it going with you? X
