Alems, (is this your name?)
In Duisburg, Merenstraat 19, near Brussels is at saturday oktober 7th. I have no knowledge about prizes there. I am going there with my biggest Dutch squash of about only half of your pumpkins weight...
In Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart is a European weigh-off too, this is at sunday October 8th. Owen Olsen knows the address. You can get a big prize there, €5000 for a pumpkin above 500kg, if I am right. But you have to give the pumpkin by getting this money, it seems. May be you can make a deal with the organizers by having a cetain number of seeds for own use?
It's a long ride trough Sweden and than through Germany. But such a prize makes thing possible.
Think about it and ask more questions. Owen and others pumpkin growers know much more than newbee me.
All Good Luck I wish to you! And best wishes, Theo.

Lilja, in Germany, at Ludwigsburg on 8 October is a so called European weigh off, first prize is 2000 euro, with a bonus of 1000 euro if the pumpkin is over 500 kg. That is almost 4000 dollars, not bad. If you decide to come, call the organizer ahead of time and tell them you will only come if you get to keep your pumpkin, I bet they agree.
Many sites call themselves European weighoff championship, due to us not being as organized over here, and it sells better to the unknowing public, but we (the growers that visit this site) really know who is the champ, the one that grows the biggest here, period.

Are there more European weigh-offs than Duisburg and Ludwigsburg? And is the place which has the biggest number of heaviest pumpkins from many countries the best claim to be the real European Weigh-off?

I second what Owen says. You get that thing weighed on official scales in Sweden and its the biggest pumpkin in Europe officially as long as no one has bigger.

Ummm,,,official scales, good cameras for lots of pictures, lots of creditable witnesses,,signed certificate from an official of some sort at the weighing, all things to consider at a private scales. I was told this was required in weighing some DMG fruit I have here. For a "record" setting fruit I would try to make it to an official weighoff!!

Lilja(and any other europeans with potential world records) I strongly advise you and the organisers of whatever weigh off you attend to speak to Guiness BEFORE weighing your fruit so they can tell you directly what is required.
