Lets cross our fingers for sound fruit.
Good luck Jan and Lilja Sweden!

There is also a very promising Squash growing here in the UK this year too, only time will tell i guess. Europe really is having a "Golden Year" this year, maybe the best ever.

Regards
Mike

Really very exiting!

So, the world record squash might be broken twice in Europe this year?!
Any green danger in America? ;-)

Please do not get too excited, yes, Europe is doing very well this year, but North America is a sleeping giant. When she awakens this weigh off season, I think you may see some squash and pumpkins that we can only dream of.

Owen, first see than believe. :D:D:D
Ofcourse it could be very true, let us see within a few weeks we know!

The real exitement, Owen, is: Will Jan or Porrum have the heaviest squash of Europe?

Owen,
We got that three years ago at our local weigh-off.
About 0,2kg diffrence between nr 1 and 2 and the one winning got a longer stem on the pumpkin..... wow...
What to decide?
I was in the jury, the long stem pumkin was winning.

These two big one's: a few weeks more...
Ofcourse both are great squashes!
And on from your squash seeds, Owen!
Something to be proud of too. :-)

Here on Ameland many 226kgkiewiet05 are growing, friday I am vistiting them all to see the results.
Lovely, and the weather is great too!

By estimation only the World Record Squash was passed by about 14.5 Lbs last Sunday, obviously it's what the scales say that matters come time to weigh.

Mike

What is the color criteria in Europe for squash these days?

One thing about Jan's squash:
greener than that one is impossible. :-)

G-
If this is not the standard, then the weigh off sites are wrong in my humble opinion:

Squash will be classified as follows- 100% of the following
colors or color combinations green, blue, and gray. The surface area of the fruit as grown in the garden not including the portion that was in contact with the ground. This area will include the area between the ribs, around the stem, and the blossom end. This will not include any netting (cantaloping) or any discoloration caused by the close proximity to the ground.

Well, there's a 1100 lb squash out there in Canada...

Good luck to Jantje and Porrum.

With an allowance for the standard and typical white striping you pretty much nailed it Owen.

Sy...Owen...yup. Thats the rules here today after the major change a couple years ago. A squash is a squash...you will know it as soon as you see it...green at day 30 is a good indication. Genetics can help you figure it out also but it should be obvious which is a true green squash (if there really is such a thing.)If it has orange, yellow, or white or is one of those partial blueing late season whitish/grey ones it aint a true greenie. Thats the current GPC guidlines and Green Jacket Trophy rules as far as I know it.You need to be careful what seed you pick for a true greenie as a couple gene pools go both ways.
