Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle

My soil test came back and one of the numbers I can actually guess at as to what it means for my soil, is the organic matter- very low at .27%. This year was the first year I added compost (mushroom) to my soil and only added 2" across the patch. Obviously my organic needs to come up. My plan is to add 4" this fall, till in and let cover crop have it's way with it. Then in spring till in another 4". Is there a formula as to how much compost adds how much % of organic matter? I want to bring it up, but also worry about having too much as we are in a very wet humid area and I don't want to promote disease. I really liked what the mushroom compost added to my soil this spring. It's test was: .93% N, .97%P, .75%K, 4% Calcium, and .29% magnesium.

The test numbers listed are for the Mushroom compost, not my soil.

I would think about adding lots of organic matter. I live in Southeastern Kentucky and adding organic matter, llama poo, mushroom compost, manure, all led to disease issues. We have hot hot summers, humid and lots of fog, of course, I live on the river. What type of soil do you have, would be the first question. If things are growing good, no disease issues, then sounds like you are heading in the right way.

My soil is clay based, but I have great drainage as it has been worked with for two years now. What should my organic matter be? Does anyone know? I'm a little frustrated as I can't seem to get a answer as to what this soil test is telling me that I had done on my soil...maybe a month ago now. I have all these values, I understand what each value represents, but no idea what it means in regards to adding things to soil. I haven't found anyone yet able to say: "hey LB, your N is "x%" so you need to bring it up to "y". I got given a link by several people for a soil calculator, but never could get it to work.
