Soybean straw makes an excellent organic amendmanet. It is a complex carbon, however it will readily break down. If you are using a lot of material, you may wish to add some nitrogen to the patch to aid in the breakdown over winter. 5 3-4 lbs Ammonium sulfate per 1000ft2 should do the trick.

I've added soybean meal this fall to help with breakdown and add OM to the soil, along with alot of coffee grinds from the local starbucks.

bigbuck, I asked this question earlier, and was told that soybean off-fall (the stuff left in the field after harvest) was very low on the ph scale...I think they said 2.5 or so. Peace, Wayne
