I was told to add gypsum in both the spring and fall.

depends on your soiltest. If you can get your nrs high enough in fall then you dont need to in spring. If in your spring soiltest nr show you need more then you can add more.

Gypsum in the fall helps. It breaks down over the winter and works down into your soil. Breaks up clay... many other benefits.

I like to do mineral, and texture adjustments in the fall. This would include Lime, Gypsum, soft rock,green sand, rock dust, coarse sand and/or compost ect...
Cover crop or mulch for the winter...
Then add ferts in the spring... This includes molases, kelpmeal, fish meal, alfalfa ect...
Try to keep the soil in balance, more is not always better. Search on google for "Reams ratios" for an example.
This is not a blanket recomendation... Your soil is unique and is always changing. Become a "student of your soil" sums it up best.

Theres been lots of debate on ratios... Probablly the majority of the new info. has ratios not being as critical as once thought.
Good info though for us "students".
