I found out today that Starbucks gives their used grounds away for free. What is the rate of application in the patch for the used grounds? Besides hyped-up worms, is there any side-effects for using the free grounds?

Coffee grounds applied too heavily can lower the soil pH. That said, I would NEVER turn away more grounds. It would take several more inches than I've ever applied to become a problem. Plus lime is cheap. If you have a compost pile then the worms will always appreciate their addition & will correct the pH as they go.
