Add manure for OM and peat moss to bring down your PH. Maybe some sulfer early this fall. You grew some nice ones this year even with a PH of 7.6 but they say that will tie up nutrients. I had 7.8 last year and was down to 7.0 by adding a little sulfer. Jeff

yes, sulphur will do the trick, but go EASY with it. A little bit goes a long way. I used about 2 ton of raw organic peat moss last year on 1250 sq ft.

I would stay away from Sulphur, My PH was over 8 and in 2 years of work I was able to bring it down to 7.3 By next spring ( 06) it should be down to around 6.7-6.9 prefered range) I use allot of Spaghnum peatmoss in my last years fall prep along with spring before planting and I used it all year to burry my vines, I tilled in a good 5 bags in sept and will do again in the spring before I take my sample.

Add organic matter with Peat Moss & the pH will fall slowly. Add 1 cubic foot per 2-3 square feet tilled to 9".
Sulfur would work but the pH isn't that high & the Peat will also bring it down.
You might add Gypsum for more Calcium but NOT Lime.

Thanks Guys, I have added peat moss and leaves and manure. I also added a compost that is high in ph(12.4!) so I am adding enough sulfer to bring the ph down to 7.1-7.3, or atleast nuetralize the compost. I hope that does the trick. I have added 8 inches of manure this fall and still have some manure and leaves to add! I am really looking foward to 2006!!
Thanks, Mikkal

Motown, Yup I'm in the same vote, My PH is finally under controll i added more to bring up my other numbers this fall prep, Hopefully it doesnt effect my PH too much April 06 test will tell. Its been allot of Hard Work, allot of back breaking lugging of manure piles to the patch lots of mulching of leaves allot of tilling and allot of adding other additives i'm hopeing to hit the 500 + mark in 2006 if not better
