Hello all,
I'm an extremely green new grower and I'm getting everything ready to plant my first seeds next year. I've bought the How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins books 1 through 3, I've been doing a ton of research and buying up all my supplies. My current obsession is seeds. The books give conflicting accounts of how many seeds per hill need to be planted. In some places it mentions multiple seeds and some places it mentions one seed, and I'm hoping someone has some advice because Google is giving me conflicting answers as well. I searched the site but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for (It's possible that I missed it). I have a lot of area in my backyard to plant but I'm only planning on making two or three hills since it'll be my first time. So how many seeds is customary to put into each hill?

Thanks!

Most people don't direct seed but start them inside and put out plants. The numbers are less that way and you don't need to worry why the seeds didn't sprout.

My plan is to get peat pots and start them inside with a heating pad and a UV light to help give them a good start. Should I just put one seed per peat pot? Or multiples?

Grab some 1 gallon plastic pots they'll last multiple seasons. One seed per pot, 10-14 days before you plan to plant into the outdoor garden. If you're only growing one plant/pumpkin start 2or3. Start two backups around a week later. When you plant out its two per "hill" and cut the weaker one out once a vine is established. Buy seeds from the winter auctions, or email a proven grower for seeds. Ask questions on here and immerse yourself in YouTube this winter plenty of great growers there. Best of luck.
