After the pumpkin pretty much stops growing, would taking the sheet off help the pumpkin to orange up, or should the sheet be left on until harvest?

Indirect light... if your pumpkin can see the sky but not the sun, that will be best. A little sun can help ma maybe but too much sun can mute (bleach out) the most vivid color.

If it's not growing, it doesn't matter. If your trying for Howard Dill award, I don't know, but shouldn't harm the size any.

Keep the sheet on it for the remainder of the season to prevent sunburn and overheating. For best orange I cant say. The orange gang hopefully will chime in.

Might want to keep the sheet on as long as you have your pumpkin-jumpin' cat on board. Cats are great, I have three here.

Since the hail storm he has not been jumping up on the pumpkin. I think it's because he can jump into the patch from any edge now, not just where the pumpkin is at. I was really mad at him at first, but now after the hail it is no big deal. Unless there is no other orange pumpkin at the weigh in, I figure my chance at a Howard Dill went away with the hail. Everything has healed over, but pretty ugly.
