How do you know your pumpkin is done? Just by no new measured growth? Color change?if no growth, how long til rot?

Often times they are already rotting on the inside. It is just a matter of time before it surfaces somewhere on the pumpkin. The flies and fruit flies will be aware of the situation before you are. Once in a blue moon they do stop growing and there is nothing wrong internally. In those cases, the pumpkin will last for as long as any other pumpkin.

I am sorry, Enzo I didn't read your question properly. To answer your question. They are done growing when measurable growth comes to a halt. Some may argue that they are still adding weight internally though. In general it is smart to leave your pumpkin on the vine as long as possible. Every ounce can help in a weigh-off. One time I tied with another grower.... to the ounce! Color change and physical appearance do give an indication of a pumpkin's age but it does not let you know if the pumpkin is done growing or not. I have heard of growers that were still measuring pumpkin growth at 80-90 days old. A healthy 'Atlantic Giant' pumpkin can last for many months if kept inside during the winter. I have had a pumpkin make it until spring the following year. I would recommend washing the pumpkin with soap and water or a 10 percent bleach solution to increase the likelihood of a long storage life.
