I see videos of growers using sheets to shad the pumpkin. Is it healthy to keep sheets over the pumpkin 24 hours or do they just keep them on a set number of hours per day?

I always have mine covered with a sheet. Old pillow cases when they are little, keeping the sun off them is important. We also use rain/sprinkler covers to keep the pumpkin dry. Like this:

Agree with NSB. And keep em tucked with the sheets along bottom to help keep rodents and feet away. Check daily and switch out when get wet. I use a tarp well off the pkn as my shaded tent utilizing pvc as the frame.

I keep mine covered 24 hrs. When spraying fungicide mine get a good spray of them. If it rains and they are really wet I switch them out

We use round commercial table cloths. They repel water & are large enough to cover the entire pumpkin even when they get larger.

I start the season with swaddling blankets, move on to table cloths and sheets. Rotate when wet or dirty. Pumpkin also in shade shelter to help keep dry.
